Broken or Chipped Tooth
This is a very common occurrence but normally not a real emergency.
When it is a back tooth it often is just a fractured cusp that is sharp to the tongue.
You can smooth the sharp edge with a fingernail sander or a small piece of wet or dry sandpaper.
The same can be done for front teeth except if you see a small spot of red on the tooth you should see the dentist immediately.
Crowns are the usual treatment for broken back teeth.
A more common emergency is an accident where a large piece of a front tooth is fractured. Put cold compresses on the face if there is trama to this area. If possible save the fractured piece in a wet tissue and call our office immediately or call Dr. Crane at home. Sometimes the piece can be bonded back on.
